BUMPING IN - WHEN SHOULD I ARRIVE AT THE MARKET?

Please arrive in good time – this is very important for the smooth running of the market and the safety of everyone moving around the site.

Our market operates from 9.00am until 1.00pm.

Our Market Manager and volunteers will be on site to assist bumping in stall holders from 6.30am.

No vehicles are allowed to enter after 8.30 a.m.

HOW WILL I KNOW WHERE AND WHEN TO SET UP MY STALL ON THE DAY?

Details about how the market will be set up and run are provided by email in the week prior to each market.

Our Market Map details the site number and location allocated to each stall holder each month. The map is emailed to stallholders and published on our Facebook page before each market.

If you are a stall holder unable to attend an upcoming Market, please notify our Market Manager as soon as possible, by email.

HOW SHOULD I PACKAGE AND DISPLAY MY PRODUCTS?

We maintain a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability. Please ensure you reflect this in your packaging choices and business practices, such as by offering compostable containers or reusable utensils. Please avoid single-use plastic wherever possible.

We encourage patrons to bring their own shopping bags and often help people to recycle and use free ‘boomerang bags’ at the gate

IS THERE ACCESS TO POWER ON SITE?

At this stage there is no power on site. Stall holders who require power currently bring their own generators.

PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE

Stallholders must be have appropriate public liability cover for the safety and wellbeing of everybody at the market. If you don’t have your own policy, you can choose to pay an additional $15 per month to be covered by the RCFM policy. Please contact us if you need assistance with insurance.

FOOD SAFETY REGISTRATION FOR FOOD TRUCKS

All food vendors in Victoria need to be registered with FoodTrader.

You must have a Statement of Trade for for every market you attend, each time you attend. This is a quick procedure that can be completed online here: https://foodtrader.vic.gov.au/

I’M NEW - CAN I HAVE A STALL AT THE MARKET?

As a Farmers Market, our focus is on primary producers and value-added manufacturers of locally sourced products. This includes a limited selection of food vans.

Most (at least 75%) of our stallholders are VFMA accredited, which makes our job of quality control easier. We try to ensure all our stallholders have a similar ethos, even if they are not accredited.

VFMA accredited stallholders can email us to apply for a site, and the process should be relatively straightforward.

If you are not accredited but feel you are a good fit and want to give our market a try, please get in touch. If you’re offering something unique and have a great philosophy you might be just the stall we need!WHAT DOES VFMA ACCREDITATION MEAN?

RCFM is accredited with the Victorian Farmers Market Association. As required, we aim to ensure 75% of our stallholders through the year are VFMA accredited. This enables us to maintain a high standard of integrity, providing genuine producers with the opportunity to trade, and gives the public confidence that they’re buying from authentic farmers and makers.

If you are interested in becoming accredited, please contact the VFMA.

WHAT CAN BE SOLD AT VFMA FARMERS MARKETS?

FARM BASED PRODUCERS who grow or raise produce in Victoria or within 100kms of the state border can sell:

  • Produce such as fruit and vegetables, meat, seafood and dairy, eggs, honey, nuts, flowers and plants.

  • Value-added products made from their produce, such as sausages, cheeses, olive oil, fruit juice or wine.

  • Non-food products from their farm, such as leather or wool.

SPECIALTY MAKERS who use a majority of ingredients grown in Victoria

  • Value-added products include things like bread, jams, juices, sauces, coffee, biscuits and cheeses.

  • Non-food products from their farm, such as leather or wool.

WHAT CAN’T BE SOLD AT FARMERS MARKETS?

We do not usually approve stallholders who are on-selling products made by third parties, second hand goods or arts and crafts.

Sometimes we set up a separate Artisans market to encourage local professional craftspeople and artists to display and sell their wares. However this is not our current focus and we are not inviting queries at this time.

If you are keen to get involved but not sure whether you qualify, please get in touch. We are constantly reviewing our mix of stallholders and keen to provide an experience for patrons that maintains quality and variety of products and stallholders.
